About the author – Robert Pereira, M.D.

Dr. Robert B. Pereira received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the University of British Columbia in 1986 and went on to complete his medical degree at UBC in 1990. A certificant of the Canadian College of Family Practitioners (CCFP), he has completed two years of post-graduate medical training in the Department of Health Care and Epidemiology at UBC, working towards a Master of Health Science Degree (MHSc).

Currently, a member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), Dr. Pereira is currently pursuing accreditation with both the American Board of Addiction Medicine (ABAM) and The Canadian Society of Addiction Medicine (CSAM).

Dr. Pereira has been a member of Alcoholic's Anonymous for the past fifteen years. He was diagnosed in 1994 with Bipolar Affective Disorder. He has become very passionate about both meditation and yoga and has tried to implement eastern spiritual teachings into his writing and medical practice.

Dr. Pereira works in Surrey B.C. where he has a busy family practice. He is currently on sabbatical from his addiction's practice while he studies to write his board exams in addiction medicine.
